President (Board Officer)

As the chief executive officer and chair, the president is responsible for overseeing board governance, by ensuring integrity of board’s processes and supporting the organization in all activities. This position requires a unique balance of skills including organizational, facilitation, engagement techniques, and the ability to foster good working relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate board meetings

  • Cultivate a strong, team environment with board officers and at-large members

  • Engage the board in strategic planning and discussion

  • Lead the board in governing the organization

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of association’s activities

  • Commitment to principled board practices

  • Experience in leading communication and discussion among board members

  • Ability to devote the appropriate time to president’s responsibilities

Term:

  • The President shall serve a term lasting two (2) years and shall serve as the Past-President upon the completion of his or her term.

President-Elect (Board Officer)

The president-elect is responsible for providing additional board leadership and assumes the role of president in the absence of the board president. This position can be time intensive leading up to the organization’s yearly conference and requires a unique balance of skills including organizational, advanced facilitation, engagement techniques, and the ability to foster good working relationships. This position will assume the role of president upon term completion and is geared toward gaining valuable board insight and distinct learning opportunities for success during presidency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend all board meetings

  • Assist the President in governing the organization

  • Facilitate board meetings in the President’s absence

  • Cultivate a strong, team environment with board officers and at-large members

  • Work with board on conference planning, including: discussing speaker topics, scheduling speakers, creating conference agenda, and any other duties as assigned

  • Serve as chair on the Education Committee and member of the Finance Committee

Qualifications:

  • A good working knowledge of association’s activities

  • Demonstrated commitment to principled board practices

  • Willingness to assume leadership role when necessary

  • Ability to devote time to responsibilities

Term:

  • The President-Elect shall serve a term lasting two (2) years and will assume the Presidency upon the completion of his or her term.

Secretary (Board Officer)

The secretary is chiefly responsible for ensuring board meetings and actions are documented. This position requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend all board meetings

  • Prepare meeting agendas

  • Record meeting minutes, review, and distribute to board

  • Assist the President in ensuring Robert’s Rules of Order are observed

  • Manage association calendar and share upcoming calendar events/items at board meetings

  • Work with President and President-Elect to manage board related documents and files

  • Assist with the maintenance of the membership and mailing lists

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with association and practices

  • Highly organized, attention to detail

Term:

  • The Secretary shall serve a term lasting two (2) years.

Treasurer (Board Officer)

The treasurer is chiefly responsible for processing all board transactions, ensuring financial records are maintained, reviewing accounts, and providing the board with financial reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend all board meetings

  • Serve as chair of the Finance Committee

  • Prepare and present financial reports at board meetings

  • Work with the President and President-Elect to file the annual Arizona Corporation Commission report

  • Submit association income tax reports as required

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with association and practices

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail

  • An understanding of or ability to learn basic accounting principles (e.g., account reconciliation)

Term:

  • The Treasurer shall serve a term lasting two (2) years.

At-Large Board Member

The at-large board member (four total) is responsible for performing special assignments, such as serving on association committees, as agreed upon by the Board of Directors, and shall assist the Board Officers in the performance of their duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend all board meetings

  • Serve as chair or member of association committee(s)

  • Provide report for committee(s) assigned to at board meetings

  • Support the board officers with additional voluntary assignments and/or tasks

  • Submit at least two newsletter articles per year

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to serving full term

  • Willingness to serve the association and support the mission of AZEHA

  • Ability to take on leadership role in regular or ad-hoc committees

Term:

  • The At-Large Board Member shall serve a term lasting two (2) years.

General Member Volunteers

A General Member Volunteer (GMV) is a non-voting AZEHA member who volunteers to assist with the organization's committees.  This allows the GMV to get to know the board members, the various committees, and the time commitment required for the different board positions.  The GMV should let the board know how much time they can commit to volunteering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Volunteer for a committee that is of interest

  • Follow through on assigned tasks

  • Attend board meetings
